Every 22 minutes a child in Britain is bereaved of a parent. This equates to over 24,000 newly bereaved children each and every year.
The death of a parent or sibling is one of the most fundamental losses a child will ever face. Studies show that if childhood grief is not dealt with appropriately it can have a deep and lasting effect on a child’s emotional well-being and cause problems later in life.
Winston’s Wish believes bereaved children need support to make sense of death and rebuild their lives.
As the leading charity supporting bereaved children in the UK, Winston’s Wish is unique in offering the widest range of clinician-led support and guidance that enables us to handle complex and difficult bereavement experiences.
We support children, and their families bereaved through suicide, murder, military service, accidents and illness. This support includes innovative ways to cope with their grief day to day, for them to express themselves and to find way to remember the person who has died.
