Founded in 1839, The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society (commonly known as - Shipwrecked Mariners' Society) assists the survivors of shipwreck supports the families of those lost at sea. Today our aim is to provide financial help to former merchant seafarers, fishermen and their dependants. We pay an immediate grant to the widow of a seafarer who dies at sea or ashore. Regular grants are paid to former seafarers, their widows and partners and those who are no longer able to work at sea through accident, disability, ill-health or for compassionate reasons. Special grants are made to meet crisis situations.
