Cyril Flint Befrienders aims to tackle the issue of social isolation and loneliness in older members of the community. Research has shown that being lonely can have a negative effect on both your physical and mental health and we feel loneliness is an issue that can be easily relieved.
We offer a premium befriending service to lonely older people in Greater Manchester, matching them with a volunteer who lives nearby and whom they have shared interests with to encourage a long lasting friendship. Volunteers then visit their befriendee for a minimum of one hour a week, most commonly for a cup of tea and a chat!
Despite the fact that we are recruiting new volunteers each month, the demand for a befriender continues to outweigh this and so we have now introduced a telephone befriending service too.
All of our volunteers are trained, DBS checked and supported throughout their volunteering and often tell us how much enjoyment they get out of being a befriender with us!
We want to grow and help combat loneliness in a bigger area but to do this we need increased financial support.
