Who we are
We are a small but very impactful UK charity that has been focused on harvesting rainwater in remote communities of India and now Africa for almost 40 years. To date we’ve worked in over 2,000 villages, helping 2.3 million people.
WaterHarvest started in 1987 as ‘Wells for India’. Today, almost four decades later our core values remain the same – to help vulnerable, remote communities have year-round access to clean drinking water. We continue to believe that the best way for us to do this is to partner with local organisations who are deeply rooted in their communities.
What we do
In Uganda we are building rainwater roof harvesting tanks in schools, providing much needed water to over 10,000 pupils and staff. Rural schoolchildren spend hours fetching water from unsafe sources up to 2 km away, affecting their studies and waterborne disease is widespread.
In remote regions of Ghana communities collect rainwater in dugouts but these are now drying out for several months at a time due to climate change. We are helping to resolve this problem by expanding & rehabilitating dugouts to ensure villagers have a sustainable source of clean drinking water all year round.
We rely solely on donations and gifts in Wills has significantly helped us in the past. Leaving a donation to WaterHarvest would help us continue to provide clean water that improves health, reduces poverty, builds climate change resilience and free girls from water procurement to attend school.
