Around 4.5 million children are growing up in poverty, and millions more are living with the impact of debt, poor housing, mental ill health or family breakdown. When families are under this kind of pressure, children pay the price.

Home-Start has changed the lives of 1.5 million children by helping them and their families through tough times. Working in family homes and communities across the UK, our home visiting volunteers and expert staff work with parents to strengthen their ability to give their child the very best possible start.

Alongside home visiting, our network of local Home-Starts run groups such as stay-and-play, school readiness sessions, perinatal and infant mental health groups and targeted support for dads, which reduce isolation and help parents feel more confident in supporting their children’s learning, language and emotional wellbeing. Together, this model helps create calmer, more nurturing home environments where children are more likely to feel safe, seen and supported.

Guided by the belief that no parent should feel alone when raising a child, Home-Start UK is committed to creating a society where every family can access help, and that all children can thrive.

The single best way to give every child the best possible childhood and a healthy, happy future is to improve support for parents. Gifts in Wills train volunteers to provide vital support in the family home. Together, we help every child feel loved and hopeful for a brighter future.
