“The Link Visiting Scheme are a critical support within our community that provides a vital and caring service to those who are most vulnerable in Wokingham.” – Our local M.P.
Since 1998 we have been supporting lonely and socially isolated older people throughout the Wokingham borough, helped by a large team of dedicated volunteer befrienders. Our friendship-based services include:
• One-to-One befriending – lives are transformed by the simple act of having a regular visit from a friend.
• Community Café – which provides a welcoming space for anyone who is feeling lonely and isolated.
• Link to Nature project – providing a seasonal programme of nature-based activities.
• Active Minds – group sessions for older people who are experiencing symptoms of cognitive impairment.
• Link Online – providing older people with tablet computers and the training needed to stay connected to the world around them.
• Community Kitchen – where we gather together our Link Friends to prepare, cook and eat delicious food together.
• A wide range of community activities and events.
“I don’t feel trapped inside anymore.”
In 2021, we were honoured with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. And in 2025 we were named ‘Charity of the Year’ at the Thames Valley Business and Community.
We are a small charity, making a BIG difference in our local community.
“My volunteer is a lifeline.”
By remembering the Link in your Will, you give the gift of friendship to those older people who need it most, both now and in the years ahead.
