St. Andrew’s Children’s Society

St. Andrew’s Children’s Society is a voluntary adoption and fostering agency with offices in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. We celebrated our Centenary in 2022.

We help vulnerable children and young people who are unable to live with their birth families to find safe and loving homes with carefully matched adopters and foster carers. 

Before entering care, our children are highly likely to have experienced several adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) including poverty, neglect, domestic abuse, exposure to drugs/alcohol and separation from their birth families and communities.  

These experiences continue to impact them into adulthood. Daily, these needs manifest as stress, anxiety, difficulties regulating emotions, issues in school and problems sleeping. 

In addition, when children experience domestic abuse, neglect, and violence from an early age, it impacts their sense of safety, their ability to trust adults, make friendships and develop good self-esteem. This in turn, plays out in the child’s ability to form a bond/attachment with their future carers. 

We are committed to offering our children and their adoptive parents and foster carers lifelong support so that the children can overcome this trauma. We want them to thrive and enjoy life as much as every other child. You can help make that difference.

Every penny of your gift will go straight to the heart of our work - supporting children to overcome the trauma they have experienced since birth or early childhood. It won’t be used on core costs like management and admin costs. We will always be here for our families.
