The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) champions grassroots conservation leaders delivering proven, science-based solutions to protect our planet. Human activity has already severely altered three-quarters of the world’s land and two-thirds of marine environments, putting one million species at risk of extinction. This loss of nature threatens not only wildlife but also food security, livelihoods, and our collective future.

Since 1993, WFN has invested over £24 million in 220 conservation leaders across more than 80 countries. Through our flagship Whitley Awards, we provide £50,000 project grants that help local conservation experts scale up their proven solutions. We continue backing winners throughout their careers with further grants, training and visibility, enabling them to expand their projects nationally and internationally.

Beyond funding, we strengthen capacity through mentorship, training, and an active global network that fosters collaboration and peer learning. This holistic approach empowers leaders to deliver lasting results for both people and nature.

Collectively, our alumni have created 45 million hectares of conservation areas, supported more than one million people through sustainable livelihood schemes, and helped shape over 200 policies to strengthen environmental protection.

By leaving a gift in your Will to WFN, you will help local conservation leaders protect wildlife, restore ecosystems, and strengthen communities for generations. Your legacy will ensure lasting solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges, creating a future where people and nature thrive together.
